Honda's new U-GO scooter is hitting the streets with two options a basic one topping out around 33 mph and a slower one at 27 mph. We're talking hub motors and removable batteries think 1.44 kWh standard or double that if you upgrade. The big deal here is the price though just over a grand making it way cheaper than those fancy NIU scooters. Anyone thinking this could be a killer commuter for short trips and those speeds enough for city riding? I'm wondering how that cheaper build quality will hold up over time.

The price is definitely appealing, but 33 mph tops out pretty fast in real-world traffic. If you’re in a dense urban area with slower speed limits, it might be fine, but anywhere with faster-moving traffic, it could feel underpowered. Also, at this price, I’d be curious how the build quality holds up after a year of daily use. Honda usually builds things to last, but at this price point, they must have cut some corners somewhere.

At that price, the U-GO could be perfect for city commuting, especially for short trips. The lower top speed might limit highway use, but it’s still promising...
